Jungle Fishing

Silver King Lodge offers more lagoons, rivers and back waters than any other jungle area on the east coast of Costa Rica. These waters are the home for game fish of all sizes. There are river Tarpon, Calba, Mojarra, Machaca and the elusive Guapote. We are sure that there are many other fish that can entice the sportsman such as giant Sawfish and what the guides call Tiger Fish. Tiger fish have stripes, look like a large crappie but fight like a small mouth bass.

SAWFISH

Guapote Anyone?
Guapote is without doubt one of the toughest, meanest fighting fish in the jungle. It looks similar to a peacock bass but is not related to it. It isn’t related to any bass. In the water it is one of the most colorful fish you could see but out of the water it looks like someone hit it on the head causing it to get a large lump and change colors from bright green and purple to very dark hues of purple. The guapote can grow over 15 pounds but due to its tenacious behavior most caught on rod and reel are under 5 pounds. They are fished as you would for bass, around structure which they dearly love. Their first instinct is to dive for the timber, letting you fight them and the tree they are wrapped around. Guapote fishing can become addictive to those who love the hunt and capture of an elusive tough fighting fish.
