Hotels in San Jose

You are responsible for the payment of your hotel on your first night in San Jose. You are also responsible for the last night if you are not leaving on an afternoon flight. We will be glad to transport you to your hotel or the international airport. We have cooperate rates at Holiday Inn and the Sleep Inn in downtown San Jose. Upon making your reservation, we will be happy to furnish you with information allowing you to get a discounted rate at Sleep Inn.

Current Rates: Holiday Inn - $85.00, Sleep Inn - $73.00. Both rates are before Costa Rican taxes and subject to change without prior notice.

Next day

You will be picked up at your hotel lobby at 5:30 A.M. The EXECUCAR driver will take you to the private airstrip where you will board a chartered plane for a one half hour trip to the Barra airstrip.

On occasion, the weather or unforeseen problems will interfere with these plans. EXECUCAR transportation company will be sure you reach the lodge. They will take you on a 3 ½ hour tour through San Jose, Guapolous, and Cariari to one of two ports to catch one of our boats. They call us when they reach Cariari to ensure a Silver King boat waiting at the port. This is a scenic tour where you will be sure to see crocodiles and monkeys. It will take longer than the 35 minute flight, but we will get you there!

Please keep your passport easily accessible. You will be asked to show your passport upon entering the private airport. You may also be asked to show your passport when you disembark the plane at the Barra.

Arrival

Upon arrival to the Barra airstrip, you will be met by Silver King’s host, and your personal fishing guide. A 5 minute boat ride up the Colorado River will bring you to Silver King Lodge.

Lodge

Upon arrival, you will be given your room key and 15 minutes to get settled. A bell will sound, signaling breakfast is being served in the dining room. While you are enjoying your delicious breakfast buffet, you will listen to a brief orientation. At this time, you will complete your fishing license. There is a $25.00 USD fishing license fee in Costa Rica. This license is an annual fee and expires every April 1st. If you have been fishing in Costa Rica within the year, your license will still be active.

Tackle & Lures

Your guide will provide you with a fully stocked tackle box of brand new proven lures for our local fishery. This tackle box is stocked for your first trip, once a lure is no longer useable, you may purchase a replacement in the tackle shop or fish with one of your own lucky lures.

Tackle & Gift Shop

We have a fully stocked tackle shop. All of the necessary lures for the Barra fishery are available for purchase. We have a selection of locally crafted Costa Rican ware for your shopping pleasure.

Fly fishing

We recommend you bring any and all of your own fly fishing equipment.

Liquor

We supply beer, soda and water in the boats daily for the guests. At the bar, there is a nominal charge for all liquor; $3.00 for local liquors, $2.00 for beer, and $5.00 for any top shelf liquor.

You can enjoy a “happy hour” every day from 4:30 to 5:30.

Massages

Massages are available by appointment. Information on how to book, will be given at orientation.

Gratuities

We have an informational booklet in all of the rooms to help guide your tipping expenses. Please bring cash for these expenses.

The day you are leaving the lodge

Please leave your key in the door and leave your bags outside your door when you go to breakfast. You will leave the lodge at 6:15am for the Barra airstrip to start your trip back to San Jose.

Arriving in San Jose, you will be met by EXECUCAR service and transported to your hotel. It will be at your own discretion to make arrangements for the return to the International Airport. Options available are private taxi, airport shuttle and you can make your own arrangements with EXECUCAR service.

Airport exit fee

Remember, when exiting Costa Rica, you must pay a $26.00 USD per person exit tax. You must pay this tax inside the airport terminal BEFORE checking in with your airline.

There are counters on the right and left, just as you enter the airport terminal. These lines look long, but will move quickly.

They accept cash or credit cards. You will be given a stamped receipt, this will be passed in at a small desk on the way to checking in at your airline. You can also pay the fee before leaving your hotel in San Jose, there is an additional $4.00 charge.
